But in today’s time, we are either running out of time or money. And every month going to a hair salon for a spa certainly requires a lot of time as well as discomfort and moreover, even the charges are also high. So, why not you try hair spa at home?

Our kitchen is full of such things that can help with almost all hair related problems like dandruff, damaged hair, thin hair, hair fall, dull hair. And the best thing about doing a hair spa with natural ingredients is that they don’t have any side effects. 

Prerequisities for a hair spa

  1. Your hair should be clean and untangled. 
  2. Whatever utensils you will use to mix ingredients should be clean. 
  3. Use oils, creams, shampoo, conditioner from trusted brands. 
  4. Your towel should be washed. 
  5. Use a wide-tooth comb or hairbrush. 

Oil Base spa in Home

Oil-based hair spa is useful for people who have dry and frizzy hair. It works well for people with dry scalp. 

  1. Olive Oil : Olive oil is considered to be the best oil for hair. It deeply nourishes your scalp. And helps to fight against dandruff. It acts as a moisturiser for your hair ends.

    How to use?
    Take 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in a bowl and warm it up by either simply putting it on low flame or using double boiler process. And with slight pressure massage it on your scalp with your fingertips. Don’t vigorously rub your scalp as it might lead to more hair breakage. Once you are done with massage tie your hair up in a loose bun. 

    Now, boil some water in a wide pan and soak a clean towel in this water. For better results, you can add some neem leaves in the water, as it would help to fight against any kind of scalp problem. Now, take the towel and squeeze the excess water from it. And wrap it around your head. This process can be repeated 2-3 times. 

    After an hour you can wash your hair with a sulphate free shampoo and use a conditioner. This will result, in smooth and shiny hair. For best results, you can repeat this process once in two weeks or twice a month. 
  2. Multiple Oil Hair Spa
    This will help you tackle multiple hair problems in one go. For this, you will need coconut oil, mustard oil, Olive oil and jojoba oil. Coconut oil is light oil and used regularly by most of us for hair, skin and other problems. Mustard Oil might feel sticky but it deeply nourishes your hair roots. Jojoba oil is rich in vitamins and minerals including vitamin B, C, E as well as zinc. 

    How to use?
    Coconut oil- 1 tablespoon
    Mustard oil- 1/2 tablespoon
    Olive oil- 1 tablespoon
    Jojoba oil- 5-6 drops

    Mix all these in a bowl and warm them. Detangle your hair and start massaging it slowly onto your scalp as well as towards your end. Leave it for 10-15 minutes. 

    Take a towel and dip it in hot water, squeeze the excess amount of water. And wrap it around your head. Repeat this process 2-3 times.

    After an hour, you can wash your hair using a mild shampoo and also use your favourite conditioner. Let your hair air dry.

Fruit based hair SPA at home

In this case, your base ingredient is a fruit. Yes, it sounds strange but many fruits can help us make our hair shiny and gorgeous. Fruits like kiwi, sweet potatoes, almonds, papaya, broccoli, guava are packed of nutrients that are beneficial for hair. But we can’t apply hair every fruit on our hair but banana and avocados are can be easily applied on hair. 

  1. Banana Hair Spa
    You will need a ripe banana, honey, aloe vera gel and milk. Make a smooth paste of one banana to it add a tablespoon of honey and aloe vera gel and if you feel this paste is too thick to apply then add some milk.

    How to use?
    Clear your hair of any knots and divide your hair into small sections. Apply this paste on your roots as well as your ends. Once you are done with this, very gently massage your scalp.

    After this mask is half dry, take a hot water towel and remove the excess water from it and wrap it around your hair. Repeat this 2-3 times. 

    Later you can wash your air and let them air dry.
  2. Avocado Hair Spa
    Avocado is the best hair ingredient it is rich in Vitamin A and E. It helps to moisturize your scalp. Take the pulp of two avocados and mash it, to this add a tablespoon of honey and olive oil. 

    How to use?
    Section your detangled hair and apply this mixture gently on your scalp. 
    Once done, gather your hair and tie up. Leave it for 10-12 minutes. 
    Now, take a towel dipped in hot water with no water dripping from it and wrap it around your hair. Repeat it 3-4 times. 

After an hour, wash your hair with a sulphate free shampoo. Avoid using any heating tools.

Egg based hair spa in Home

Generally, people avoid egg because of its smell as well as some of us are vegetarians. But an egg is a very rich source of protein. 

How to use?

Take an egg and whisk it in a bowl to this add three tablespoons of curd and two tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Mix all the ingredients. 

Apply it throughout your hair gently and leave it for 10 min. 

And then steam it using a hot towel.

Leave it for an hour and then wash it off with a shampoo. For better results let your hair air dry. 

Tip – If you find using a hot water towel inconvenient you can-

  1. Wear a shower cap and then use a hairdryer which would be equally effective for steaming your hair. 
  2. Buy spa caps from online stores.
