It easily penetrates through the cornea and on reaching the retina it damages the light-sensitive photoreceptor cells. Recent studies have proven that the prolonged exposure to the blue light from natural or unnatural sources can increase the risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) that can lead to permanent loss of vision in utmost cases. No doubt, blue light exacerbates the eye problem greatly.

5 Reasons Why Biting Your Nails Is Bad For Your Teeth

If you have been biting your nails with no care in the world, stop it now. Because it is bad for your dental health. Whether you’re a child or adult, get rid of this habit to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Even if stress is the reasons behind your nail biting, it could still end up harming you in a variety of ways not known to you. You just can’t bite your nails to a healthy body and this habit has effects on your dental health as well. You can consult the dentist and know more about this subject to maintain the health of your teeth and gums.

Here are 5 reasons why biting your nails is bad for your teeth –

  1. Unhygienic
Nail biting is an unhygienic practice. The earlier you chuck it the better. When you bit your nails and then pluck the same finger/s inside your mouth, this may help germs to enter your system and cause harm. More so, biting into your nails means giving germs a chance to get into your mouth and get stuck between your teeth.
Bacteria are always bad for your teeth and you should encourage their spread in any form. Sadly, nail biting is something that is fraught with the risk of bacterial spread to eventually cause harm to your teeth. So, if you want your teeth to stay healthy and stay out of the way of bacteria, stop biting your nails.
  2. Worn out enamel
Your teeth are meant for chewing and eating only. Risks will always be there if you use them for something that is not helpful, like nail biting. By doing so, you make your teeth to chew constantly and when that happens, there is always a danger of the wear and tear to the enamel.
The motion of chewing can put extra force on your teeth and this is how the enamel might wear over time. It’s therefore important to not use teeth for something that is bad for your health. If you bit the nails, you should see the dentist and seek help as stress could also be the reason behind that.
  3. Misalignment
Nail biting could harm your teeth greatly. It could even cause alignment issues to your teeth. With stress on the teeth on a sustained basis, there may be a risk of disturbed alignment. And once your teeth are not correctly aligned or crooked, it may also cause biting related issues.
More so, misalign teeth are at more risk for decay than normal teeth. With teeth losing their natural alignment, it could also make other adjoining teeth get loose and ruin the appearance of your smile. For that reason, it’s advised not to bite your nails ever else be ready for misaligned teeth.
  4. Weakened teeth
If your nail-biting habit does not stop, it could even weaken your teeth over time. This naturally happens due to the excessive stress put on the teeth. And if you have braces, the level of stress just becomes double to increase the risk even two times. When you bite your nails, you put pressure on your teeth which is never good.
Worse still, if you have any orthodontic treatment done, nail-biting then becomes even more harmful. It’s therefore important to say goodbye to this bad habit and stay on top of your dental health. If you find it difficult to chuck the habit, it’s always better to consult the dentist or doctor and get it treated.
  5. Costs with cosmetic dentistry
Nail biting may appear a harmless habit to you but if not given up timely, it could force you to spend money with cosmetic dentistry. You may not need a tooth cavity treatment for that, but chances are, you need a cosmetic dentist to fix issues like oddly shaped teeth etc. Your dental bills can go up considerably over time.

So, it’s in your interest to quit nail-biting and save money that you would otherwise have to spend at the dentist in future. Since you are not going to achieve anything without biting your nails, it’s thus better to quit it and live a life of quality and dental health.

Protein Supplements

As a runner, taking protein can really help with your body’s recovery and keep you healthy and focussed but it’s not always easy to see where to get that protein from in an everyday diet. That’s why protein is an essential supplements for any runner

If you want to train harder, run faster and for longer then it’s essential to get the right levels of protein into your diet on a regular basis and one of the best ways is to take a protein supplement, so you can be sure you are getting enough and at the right time.

The easiest way to make sure you get the right level of protein is to use a protein powder and add it to smoothies or shakes, or within your cooking, to make sure you are consuming the amount your body needs to recover properly.

The team behind the sports gear website, SportzBits, helped us put together this list of essential protein supplements for the runners out there. So here is their quick guide to the various types:

  • Whey Protein
Whey protein is a complete protein which is generated from a by-product of the cheese-making process. Whey protein is a strong source of amino acids which work within your body to help your muscles recover after a run. It also has properties which help to protect the body against diseases and inflammation. One thing you need to be careful of is the quality of the whey protein powder you are purchasing – some have a high level of lactose so they can cause digestive problems and are unsuitable for people who are lactose intolerant. You should always check the percentage of the protein on the label, to assess the quality of the product you are buying. Good quality whey protein powder should be around 80% pure proteins or higher. You should also look at the ingredients list to make sure the powder doesn’t contain lots of artificial chemicals or lots of sugar. You want it to be as pure as possible and the ingredients list should be as short as possible. They do come in a variety of different flavours.
  • Soy Protein
If you are lactose-intolerant or are vegan or vegetarian then whey protein is out of the picture but you could go for a soy protein powder instead. Soy protein is made from soybeans and is another really good way to get those all-important amino acids.Make sure you choose a protein powder which shows that the soy beans have not been genetically modified – many US soy-based products are made with GMO soy so always check the label and go for the most natural source you can find.Soy protein can be quite expensive, particularly if you find a non-GMO option and it’s not the only choice of plant-based protein out there so it’s worth shopping around to find the one that suits you best.
  • Rice Protein
If you can’t use soy or whey protein powder for any reason, or you just want a cheaper, plant-based choice then rice protein could be ideal for you. It is made using brown rice which has been through a process to split the proteins from the carbs. It is very easy to digest so is ideal for anyone with food issues or digestive problems. It is difficult to flavour it though as it tastes like rice cereal so bear that in mind when you are planning to add it to other ingredients. However, it is the perfect choice for those on a budget, or those with food intolerances, allergies or sensitive digestive systems, as well as vegan or vegetarian runners.
  • Hemp Protein
Another popular choice among vegetarians and vegans is hemp protein because it is almost pure protein and contains all of the amino acids which can be found in our bodies. Hemp has a nutty flavour and can be added to any dish.Hemp also contains a large amount of nutrients and fibre – making it a great choice for runners looking to boost their bodies after a work-out. As a plant-based protein it also contains antioxidants and can add a real health kick to any smoothie or shake after a run.As a runner, protein is a vital component to your diet to ensure all of your muscles are able to fully recover and grow following any kind of strenuous exercise. Rather than change your diet drastically, simply adding a protein supplement – either in the form of one of these powders added to drinks and meals – or by taking a supplement in tablet form will help to ensure you get the right nutrients that your body needs.

There are many options available, from whey protein powder to eating protein bars after a run to help support your recovery so just make sure you are keeping that protein topped up.

What Happens To Your Body When You Start Eating Chlorophyll Rich Food

What Happens To Your Body When You Start Eating Chlorophyll Rich Food

If you’re not binging on green leafy vegetables like your mother told you to you’re probably missing out on nature’s finest cancer-fighting resource.

Chlorophyll keeps plants green and healthy. Ever wonder what happens when you eat chlorophyll-rich foods?

When absorbed in the body chlorophyll does a lot of good things. The single biggest benefit is that chlorophyll can go a long way in fighting chemically caused cancers.

Let’s look at the benefits one-by-one.

Chlorophyll can protect you against cancer

In the body, chlorophyll binds to carcinogenic chemicals like polycyclic hydrocarbons- from tobacco, amino toxins released from meat cooked at high heat, and from mold-ridden peanuts and grains. It absorbs free radicals too. Toxic molds like aflatoxin that can develop from some strains of mold on peanuts, amino toxins, and polycyclic hydrocarbons can cause damage to our DNA and chlorophyll snips that at the bud.

The mechanism behind cancer prevention

The Risk for cancer is alleviated by the manner in which chlorophyll moves through our bloodstream detoxifying the liver as it goes. It interferes and prohibits cancer causing chemical from synthesizing into procarcinogens in the liver which are the precursors of carcinogens. Procariginen metabolization is the first step in DNA damage. By limiting the activity of enzymes that activate procarcinogens chlorophyll effectively protects you from cancer. Chlorophyll is a great antioxidant and decreases cellular damage and repairs damaged cells.

One study showed that chlorophyll decreased the number of tumors in liver from 64 percent to 29 percent. The study oversaw the application of DBC- a particulate matter that’s produced when burning charcoal or fuel oils on mice sample group. DBC is a potent carcinogen. Consequently, tumors began appearing. When the sample group was treated with chlorophyll the tumors subsided.

Its derivative is good for all kinds of problems

Chlorophyllin— a salt derived from chlorophyll when topically applied can reduce acne and clear up the skin.
In a study conducted in 2015, it was seen that people who had acne on their face saw remarkable improvement when they used topical chlorophyllin for 3 weeks.

When consumed orally it can speed up bowel and liver cleansing. The compound is particularly helpful in reducing inflammation and reducing pain when applied at the affected area. It improves oxygen circulation in the body and boosts helpful gut bacterial growth.

Chlorophyll additionally stimulates blood production. In a 2004 study, it was seen that in the control group those who ate wheatgrass- which contains 70% chlorophyll- required fewer blood transfusions. The control group suffered from a disease called thalassemia a blood disorder that requires frequent transfusions.

It also stimulates your immune system.

Chlorophyll helps our body get energy directly from the sun

So far, only plants can use direct sunlight to manufacture food.

But in a research study, it was seen that a particular metabolite present in mammalian mitochondria has the ability to convert light to energy. When this metabolite was mixed with chlorophyll and given to a worm called Caenorhabditis Elgan it resulted in a longer lifespan for the worm and higher energy production when exposed to light.

The same metabolite to convert light into food exists in mammals like human beings, rats, and pigs.

If gene editing progresses some more we’ll be looking past traditional food sources.

What are Chlorophyll rich foods?

Dark green vegetables are richly endowed with chlorophyll. Chlorella, the naturally occurring green algae is another great source. Chlorella also binds with harmful mercury in the body and eliminates it.
Spirulina is another great source of chlorophyll.

Protip: Whenever possible try consuming chlorophyll-rich foods without cooking them as cooking dilutes and destroys the chlorophyll content in these foods. Raw foods are the way to go.

Concluding thoughts

What do you think of the amazing benefits of chlorophyll? From fighting cancer to damaging broken tissue and providing a healthier gut, its nature’s own superfood.
